Creative - Explorers - Time - Session 5 - Music

Hello everyone, it's time for music with Sean! Welcome to session five of our 'Time' scheme. This session starts and ends with the hello and goodbye songs and features all the songs from last week. This week's video includes a new relaxing end to our video as we get 'ready for bed'. Here is some information about each activity in this video:

  • Hello Song (Calming) - A familiar song to start each session. It is an opportunity to say hello to everyone. There is also a gap to say hello using your name too.
  • Morning (Movement) - A warm up activity designed to wake up your body and mind. Copy Sean as he stretches and warms up ready for the day ahead.
  • I Wake Up (Singing) - A singing activity based upon our morning routines. The focus of this activity is to explore copying Sean's singing (like an echo) and/or copying the signs and actions. There is an opportunity for students to think of their own idea for what they do in the mornings or they can be given a choice of two to choose from like 'brush my hair' or 'eat breakfast' or put on my shoes'.
  • Hickory Dickory Dock (Playing Instruments) - An instrumental activity which focusses on exploring making different sounds (glissandos) and keeping a steady beat. Any instrument can be used to keep a steady beat but a tuned percussion instrument like a glockenspiel or xylophone works well for playing glissandos (you could use a shaker for this). What different sounds can you make using tuned percussion? Can you play with a sense of pulse (to the beat)? Can you sing at the same time as playing?
  • Play With Me (Movement) - A fun song to get you moving and grooving. Can you follow Sean's actions and keep in time with the song? Can you think of you own actions?
  • Play Your Music Now (Playing Instruments) - An instrumental activity which focusses exploring and making sounds. Part of the song is dedicated to playing at different tempos (slow and fast). Can you make different sounds on your instruments? Can you play slow? Can you play fast? Can you sing at the same time as playing? Can you play with a sense of pulse (to the beat)?
  • Time for Bed (Singing) - A singing activity with props. Find a blanket and a comfort toy as we sing and sign along with Sean. Can you use makaton signs to support your singing? Can you sing a key word or phase?
  • Time (Calming) - A listening activity. Find a relaxing position to listen to the music. If you want to, you could use bubbles for support relaxation. An additional activity would be to talk about the music after it has finished (pause the video). How did the music make you feel? Did you hear any changes in the music (loud/quiet/fast/slow)? What instruments could you hear?
  • Goodbye Song (Calming) - A familiar song to end each session. It is an opportunity to say goodbye to everyone. There is also a gap to say goodbye using your name too.
