Addington School

Admissions

Admissions to Addington School is through the Local Authority SEND team.  Please see our Admissions Policy on our Policies page.

Addington School is for pupils with severe and profound learning difficulties and there is a high demand for places.  Addington School is over capacity with no places in any year groups. Due to ever increasing demand and improved inclusion in mainstream settings, the complexity of need at Addington has increased. Addington School does not have the peer group for pupils on the pathway to GCSEs, level 1 or 2 qualifications. It does not have the peer group for pupils whose main barrier to learning is social, emotional or mental health.

When considering Addington School it is important parents and carers consider the longer term view for their child’s education, taking into account many factors, including those that are sometimes missed. These include:

- The importance of pupils accessing and generalising knowledge within their local community, especially from year 9 upwards.

- Travel to and from school and the implications of reducing transport provision on parents' ability to get their child to and from school and collect them quickly if called to the school due to pupil sickness or injury

Addington School has two sites: our Main Site is in Woodley and our small Early Years Centre in Farley Hill. Our Early Years Centre is for pupils from Foundation Stage 1 to Year 1 or Year 2. Our main site is for pupils from year 2 to year 14 and any pupils below year 2 with exceptionally complex physical or medical needs. Pupils starting at the Early Years Centre will automatically move to the main site at the end of year 1 or 2.

Prospective Parent Visits are suspended.  There are no places available now or for September 2025. Unless pupils leave in Key Stage 2, 3, 4 or 6th form, there is no capacity to admit pupils in September 2026.  Year 14 leavers this year and subsequent years will make space for pupils in our Early Years Department (Farley Hill site). Due to the lack of capacity at Addington, the school leadership team have decided to suspend prospective parent visits.  However, tours will be offered to any new pupils as part of the admissions process and transition.
