Instead of throwing away some of your rubbish let’s get creative and use it to create a house!

There are lots of things you might find around your home which you can use to build house.

Here are some suggestions of things you might need:

  • Empty plastic bottles or food containers.
  • Cardboard boxes.
  • Coloured paper/ card.
  • Pens/ pencils/ paint.
  • Glue or sellotape.
  • Scissors.

Now you have all your resources you can get creating!  Use the pictures below to help you come up with a design.

Don’t worry if you don’t have any empty containers to build a house you can use the template below and do some cutting and sticking. You could draw your own house and colour it in or do some mark making.

Nature Houses

You could take this activity outside if it isn’t too cold or wet! Have a look around see what you can find which may help you. Here are some ideas of things you might be able to use:

  • Sticks.
  • Leaves.
  • Stones

Instead of creating a picture with your finds how about building a house for a small animal in your garden such as a bird nest.

Playdough Houses

You could use playdough to build a house. Will you build a 2D or 3D house with playdough. What colours and shapes will you use?

Don’t worry if you don’t have any playdough here is a simple recipe to make your own:

You will need:

  • 8 tablespoons plain flour
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 60ml warm water
  • Food colouring of your choice
  • 1 table spoon of vegetable oil

Method:

  • Mix the flour and salt together in a large bowl.
  • In a measuring just or smaller bowl mix the water and food colouring together.
  • Mix the flour and salt with the water and food colouring.
  • Dust a work surface with some flour. Knead the dough together until it forms the desired consistency.

This will only make a small amount of coloured dough, if you want to make more double the ingredients.
