Planet Earth Art

See how many different ways you can be creative with, or inspired by, the Planet Earth template shown below. The full A4 size template can be downloaded at the bottom of the page.

This can be coloured using coloured pencils or felt pens.

Why not explore colour and try out different combinations to produce a 'Pop Art' look as below.

Extension: Try drawing extra lines across the page and colour them in different colours adding patterns and other mark making ideas.

What other materials could you use? The first picture below has been painted, but instead of using a brush the paint has been dotted on. The second has been covered with scrunched up tissue paper adding loads of texture.

Using old leaflets and magazines is a great way to make an interesting collage with a range of shades and colours to add depth to your piece of artwork.

For extra texture (and fun!) try colouring rice with paint. Leave a few minutes to dry out and then the rice can be glued onto the page. Once completed an extra layer of glue on the top will stop any stray rice from falling off.

For a more 3D effect use play dough, plasticine or cloud dough to make your own version of planet Earth. Make a ball in blue for the oceans and add blobs of green on the top to look like land.

Extension: Try to build up your ball of plasticine, play dough etc in coloured layers. Start with white, then yellow then brown to represent the core, the mantle and crust of planet Earth inside and then blue and green for the oceans and land on the outside. Will your layered planet work? You can only tell when you cut it in half!  See how many layers you can make...
