Creative - Spaghetti & marshmallow house
See if you can build a house or tower, using spaghetti and marshmallows!
This is a very simple, but totally engaging activity. Depending on your child’s age and ability, explain what you will be building, and demonstrate how to use the spaghetti and marshmallows to create a structure.
Equipment:
- Uncooked spaghetti (toothpicks or straws work well too)
- Marshmallows (clay or tape work well too)
- You may want to explain that shorter lengths are stronger and less likely to break, and that it’s best to start the construction by making a base, as this will give the tower some strength and rigidity.
- Alternatively, allow the children to work this out for themselves through trial and error
- Use the mini marshmallows as connectors to join the strands of spaghetti.
- Allow the children to build the houses/towers to their own design and award prizes for the tallest, strongest, most attractive, etc. You could even suggest a race, whoever finishes building their house first is the winner!
