Labelling a Flower

 

In this activity you will be learning the different parts of a plant.

Let's watch the video to learn the different parts of a plant:

Activity 1: Cut and Stick Flower

Use the worksheet attached to create your flower. Make sure you stick the picture down in the correct order. Can you tell a grown up what each part of the flower is called? Once you have stuck down your picture you could colour it in.

Activity 2: Playdough Flowers

Can you use playdough to make a flower? You can use the playdough mats to help.  Make sure you include all the different parts of a flower. Can you label or tell an adult what the different parts are called?

Activity 3: Make and Label a Flower

Can you make your own flower diagram.

You will need:

  • A paper plate
  • Coloured Paper
  • Pens/ pencils/ paint
  • String
  • Scissors

Method:

  1. Colour or paint your paper plate to make the flower. You can also cut around the outside of the plate to make petal shapes.
  2. Next, cut out a stem and leaves from coloured paper. If you don’t have coloured paper you can colour or paint them green.
  3. Cut the string into little bits so it looks like roots.
  4. Finally stick the different parts of your flower onto a piece of paper.

Now you have your flower can you label the different parts? You can do this by either using the labels below or you can write it on your picture.

Activity 4: Flower Sensory Tray

Explore the different parts of a plant in a sensory tray. While playing you can talk about the different parts, can you smell the flowers? What colours are the different petals?

 

Sensory tray ideas:

  • You can cut put lots of different flowers into the tray. You can use whole flowers and flowers which have been cut into the different parts of a plant such as leaves, petals and stems.
  • Use a muffin tray to freeze the different parts of a flower. Put these into a tray and give your child various tools to break the ice so they can explore the contents of the ice cube. You could give your child a spray bottle with warm water to melt the ice.
