Wokingham Borough Council is inviting parents and carers to complete a survey to give their views about proposals relating to home to school transport and travel assistance for young people with SEND.

Home to School Transport and Travel Assistance for Post 16 Young People with SEND
Wokingham Borough Council is reviewing and consulting on its home to school transport and travel assistance policies. The consultation is available on our website and is open from Monday 21 September until Friday 6 November.

Reviewing our home to school transport and travel assistance policies is something we are required to do periodically, and we think that there are opportunities through this review to improve outcomes for children and young people in Wokingham borough, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
As a council we want to make sure we continue to deliver our statutory responsibilities for home to school transport to meet the travel needs of children and young people, enabling them to access their place of education safely and arrive ready to learn. We are aware that without this service some of our children and young people would be unable to access their school or college, especially those who have significant additional needs or are extremely vulnerable.
Through this consultation, we are seeking views on two draft policies designed to improve home to school/college travel arrangements for children and young people in the borough, in a financially sustainable way. The two policies are:
- A home to school transport policy for children and young people aged 5-16
- At travel assistance policy for post-16 young people with SEND
We are keen to get your views on the proposed new policies and how to make affordable improvements to the service.
