Reminder of what to do if your child has symptoms of Coronavirus

Please see email below which outlines what to do if your child has symptoms of Coronavirus

Dear Parents and Carers,

Due to new national restrictions for Covid-19 and an increase in cases, I am writing to remind you of the protocols around illness and when to send your child into school.

If your child has ANY of the symptoms below, you MUST NOT SEND them to school:

  1. A new continuous cough
  2. A high temperature
  3. A loss of change to taste or smell

You must then book a test for your child at the link below:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/

The rest of the household must self-isolate until the result of the test when you will be told the next steps for your child and family.

I am aware that it may be difficult to get a test locally at the moment and if this is the case, please let the school know immediately. The test has to be done in the first 5 days from when the symptoms started.

As children go back to school in the Autumn, common colds are very prevalent. A runny nose or a sore throat NOT accompanied by the symptoms listed above do not require you to get a test and your child is free to return to school as and when they feel better.

Staff are doing an excellent job inside school enhancing the cleaning of classrooms and ensuring all pupils are frequently washing their hands or washing them for them if required. Every pupil’s temperature is taken on entry to the classroom in the morning and if a temperature is raised, the child is taken to the isolation room immediately and parents called to collect. The same measures apply to any pupil developing symptoms during the school day.

The Bubbles in school are working well and the staggered lunch and break times are strictly adhered to, as are the designated directional routes across school.

I understand this may be a worrying time for our school community, but transmission rates in the Reading and Wokingham area remain low and working together we can help to reduce risks and continue to provide the best possible education for our pupils.

Thank you for your continued support.
