Welcome back to school on Thursday

1 September 2020 (by admin (admin))

Sara sent the following information to parents by email today. A copy of the letter and the information about car parking for parents and back to school protocols can be found on our Coronavirus information page at the link below.

Dear Parents & Carers,

Welcome back to the new term and I hope that you are all well and have managed to have some sort of break during the summer holidays. I would also like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new families starting at Addington this week and look forward to meeting your children in person on Thursday.

I have 2 priorities this term:

  1. To provide a Covid-19 safe working school for all
  2. To provide high quality and breadth of education, as well as access to specialist staff and therapists

These are our overriding aims and in order to make them happen, I urge you to read the attached protocols that I sent out at the end of last term about  how to keep everyone safe.  The protocols now contain up to date information on the wearing of face masks.  For pupils who can manage face masks properly, wearing them in communal areas around the school is currently optional.  Staff and pupils are not expected to wear them in classrooms.  The rate of transmission in the Wokingham and Reading areas is relatively low and the area is not deemed an area of concern for Government intervention at this time.  If a local lockdown in enforced, the wearing of face masks will be compulsory in communal areas for those that can manage them.

Our COVID-19 Risk Assessment is comprehensive and can be found by clicking on the link below.

Smooth drop off and pick up of pupils is imperative in order to keep social distancing measures in place so please adhere to the staggered start and finish times for your bubble stated in the protocol document.

Also attached to this email is a parent parking document which outlines the different parking arrangements effective from Thursday 3 September.  I ask for your patience and understanding whilst these new measures are embedded and to be tolerant of any teething problems. They are designed to make the flow of traffic in the car park smoother and safer for all users.

Finally, I expect to see all pupils back on Thursday unless individual discussuions have been had for some of our extremely vulnerable pupils. It will be a joy to see all our pupils back after such a long time for many of them and I look forward to establishing a safe, happy environment within which all our pupils can learn and achieve. I will be in touch shortly with updates about staff contacts for parents and more general notices.

Yours faithfully
