Pupil Premium

 

Pupil Premium is used to fund educational interventions for the students of low income families. If you are on low income and your child is eligible to receive free school meals for this reason, they will also qualify for Pupil Premium.  Pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 now qualify automatically for free school meals, however, this does not automatically qualify them to receive Pupil Premium intervention. It is therefore important that low income families (see criteria below) still complete the application for Early Years Pupil Premium.   • income-based Jobseekers Allowance
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit

Early years pupil premium and pupil premium are the same thing.   The government has made a distinction between the two because in order to qualify for pupil premium parents need to apply for free school meals.   Once they are successful in their application pupil premium is automatic.   However, as a consequence of giving reception, year 1 and year 2, free school meals parents stopped applying for free school meals as they did not see any point.   Therefore they are being encouraged to apply for early years pupil premium instead.  Once children in reception, year 1 and year 2 have qualified for Early Years Pupil Premium they should automatically qualify for pupil premium in year 3 as pupil premium is given to any student qualifying for Free School Meals in the last 6 years (EVER6 qualification)
