See below for information about a parent driven #notanurse_but campaign, set up to shine a light on the reality of life behind closed doors for families caring for a child or young person with exceptional health needs. It’s goal – to gather the evidence and highlight to decision makers the massive gaps in support that currently exist and need to be filled.

25.11.16 wass National Carers Rights Day, marking the one year anniversary of the launch of the campaign, so we thought this was the perfect time to let you know what an amazing first year it has been.

Leanne – our parent who helped us to launch the campaign, and continued to take a leading role in driving the campaign forward - has spent much of this week in hospital with her daughter Sophie but wanted to send you this very special message, telling you about some of the achievements so far, and where we are going next!

Make your #notanurse_but pledge

Today, we would like to recognise all parents and carers, by highlighting the wonderful support from professionals who work with or on behalf of children and young people with exceptional health needs and their families.  Please help us by pledging your support to the campaign.

Please take a moment to:

  • Tweet us with your support using #notanurse_but
  • Share your invaluable knowledge and experiences by signing up to #notanurse_but and completing our 3 campaign questions.  We will also send you lots of materials so that we can reach the families that you work with.  The more families we can reach, the more we are able to create positive change.

By visiting our campaign page, you will also be one of the first people to read a very special journal article written by Professor Bernie Carter and Dr Lucy Bray, as well as a video diary message from our team of WellChild Children’s Nurses.

Best Wishes
