Micro Scooters and Safety Helmets

Please click here view a leaflet which gives information about how to wear a safety helmet correctly and it also has a discount code for parents to get a free helmet when ordering a new Micro Scooter.

Please also see below for information from the Active Travel Officer at Wokingham Borough Council about a Micro scooter competition they are running:

“We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Micro Scooters to run a second competition this term.  Scooting is an excellent form of active and sustainable travel for children and adults alike.  If scooting the entire journey to school is not feasible, then ‘park and scoot’ is a great option to include some active travel in your journey and remove air pollution from directly outside the school gates.

To take part children need to write a story or poem about a scooting adventure they have had or would like to have.  The winner will receive a Micro Scooter of their choice.

Entries should to be sent to wendy.measures@wokingham.gov.uk or heather.eley@wokingham.gov.uk by midnight on 12th Dec 2018.”

Advice to Parents during Junior Epipen shortage

SHINGLES

We have a case of Shingles in middle school.  Shingles can cause chickenpox in those who are not immune (i.e. have not had chickenpox).  It is spread by very close contact and touch.  Currently we have no cases of Chickenpox in school.

Vulnerable children - Some medical conditions make children vulnerable to infections that would rarely be serious in most children, these include those being treated for leukaemia or other cancers, on high doses of steroids and with conditions that seriously reduce immunity. These children are particularly vulnerable to Chickenpox, if exposed, the parent/carer should be informed promptly and further medical advice sought.

Pregnancy  - Shingles is caused by the same virus as Chickenpox, so anyone who has not had chickenpox is potentially vulnerable to the infection if they have close contact with a case of Shingles.

If a pregnant woman develops a rash or is in direct contact with someone with a potentially infectious rash, this should be investigated by a doctor.  Chickenpox can affect the pregnancy if a woman has not already had the infection.  Report exposure to midwife and GP at any stage of pregnancy.  The GP and antenatal carer will arrange a blood test to check for immunity.

Skydive for Thumbs Up Club- Alex Brown

I might have gone slightly mad but at the end of July I am going to be doing a sky dive. It is something I have wanted to do for a while and if I can raise some money for Thumbs Up Club at the same time it makes it even more exciting. Thumbs Up Club is a fantastic club and the children love it, so jumping 15000 feet out of a plane is a small thing to do in comparison to the work done there! Here is my just giving link if you want to donate

If your child does contract chickenpox, please do not return them to school until all vesicles have crusted over.

If your child does develop symptoms, which are confirmed as Chickenpox, please let the school know so that we can identify classes particularly at risk.

Please feel free to distribute this to other agencies or individuals you think might have an interest in these issues.

Please note that this report establishes priorities for our investment programme under the Special Provision Capital Fund (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/send-provision-capital-funding-for-pupils-with-ehc-plans ). There are a number of possible works schemes in here, but the schemes for Wescott Infant School and Foundry College stand out as settings where additional accommodation is required to meet the needs of children with SEND.
