Addington School

Gallery - Shakespeare Performance at South Hill Park - 19.10.18

This year, 10 students took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival. Led by Chris B (our drama specialist) and supported by Jane H and Anita S, they created their own version of the Shakespeare comedy ‘As You Like It’. The group worked together for 2 ½ hours every Monday for 6 weeks to produce a performance to show at South Hill Park Arts Centre in Bracknell. This is the first time Addington have participated in this festival.

As part of the project, the group visited the theatre and participated in a morning workshop with specialist practitioners from the Shakespeare Schools Foundation. They played drama games, learnt top tips for performing and performed one of their scenes. They worked with one of the practitioners to develop the scene further which inspired the students with developing the rest of the play in their next rehearsal.

On Friday 19th October, the group went to South Hill Park Arts Centre to run their technical and dress rehearsal. This was the first time they had the combination of lights and sound on the stage. They worked really well together and were good audience members when watching and providing feedback to another school’s dress rehearsal. In the evening, the group performed to around 300 people and showed great passion, enthusiasm, confidence and humour in their performance and finished to a great applause.

This project has had a great impact on the group by developing their confidence, creativity, team working, and performance skills as well as improving knowledge, understanding, speech and language. An achievement which all the students should feel very proud of and as a school we are very proud of them.
