“We are a community committed to excellence and the development of the potential of all”
The students of Addington have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sporting activities within their curriculum. In addition to this, lunchtime and after school clubs are well established which include football, trampolining, golf, basketball, softball, badminton, volleyball, fitness and cricket amongst others. These provide a social outlet for our students as well as improving their skills in specific sports. This has been enhanced through professional coaching using our links with local clubs and schools such as: Reading Football Club, Sand Martins Golf Club, Wellington College, Kingfisher Table Tennis Club, Bulmershe Gymnastics Club and Goals.

All the students in Primary and Secondary faculties are involved in Sports Days every year. These include a class based activity morning concentrating on skills learnt over the year, with the afternoon consisting of a more traditional series of track races, which allow all the children to achieve. Pupils compete in their house teams and really enjoy their Sports day. We also offer very well attended and popular inter-house competitions and these include: scooter, hockey, basketball, football, cricket, boccia, kurling, table cricket and polybat.
Teams have developed through these clubs and Addington play other schools in a range of matches and sports tournaments throughout the year. Many students of all abilities have participated in the following sports against other schools: tag rugby, football, basketball, swimming, athletics, boccia and kurling. Every year we organise and host a Basketball Tournament for the special schools in the area. We also participate in local competitions that are hosted by local mainstream primary schools.
All abilities get a chance to participate in different competitions such as the Stoke Mandeville Games (Parathlon) and Berkshire School Games.
Students take part in a fitness week each year in March, involving activities such as a daily thirty minute workout participating in fitness circuits, aerobics, zumba and dance.
Key Stage 4 and F.E students all take their PE lessons off-site. These include ski-ing, rock climbing, trampolining, swimming, golf, badminton, horse riding, canoeing, ten-pin bowling, ice-skating and fitness. All activities are selected to meet the needs of the individual classes and are very successful.
PE in Addington looks to new areas that the students may have an interest in and can develop further. We have a good selection of bicycles and tricycles which the students learn to cycle safely in the school grounds. The students learn how to use scooters in lessons and during lunchtime and they really enjoy it. Cycling and scootering is very inclusive and a popular activity in our school.
We promote leadership opportunities within our school. Students are trained as Young Sports Leaders and they enjoy helping to run inter-house competitions, sports days and lessons.
Throughout the year the students at Addington will need a basic PE kit of shorts, coloured Tshirt and a pair of trainers. Older students will have the opportunity to have a shower after PE so will need a towel and shower gel.As the weather gets worse towards the end of the Autumn term or beginning of the Spring term older students will also need either a tracksuit or a warm top as some of the sports or activities will be done outside.
